Hi everyone, took the 86 2.5 n/a for bout half hour drive giving it some bean up local hills to clear the fuel system through ( I've put additive in diesel) and once back home noticed a small oil leak comming from the bottom of the flywheel housing. Were the wading plug is it on the bottom of that unit where it bolts onto the gearbox I believe. So I gave it a wipe and nothing else dripped out. Only leaked after was quite hot though. Is this a problem i need to look at or just top it up once a week as its the slightest of drip? Cheers Max. ;)

they do leak from rear main seal ,if it leaves the odd spot dont worry if it leaves a puddle and gearbox is getting wet change it, they can also leak through rear main bearing cap down the front of flywheel housing ,200 tdi gasket helps that and is worth fitting if you do rear main oil seal

Ok again on further inspection its not the wading hole. Looks as though it leaking from the top and dribbling down, then running along the bottom. Im new to landys still could you tell me where all the oil at the top is comming from? attached phots. Max.

it will have leaks all over engine and the rest ,rocker box ,lift pump ,oil filter etc but as i said about 200 tdi gasket which was fitted to later engine as they are prone to leak from rear main bearing cap ,flywheel housing would need removing to fit ,which is engine or box out obviously youd fit rear main oil seal etc at same time ,doesnt look like anything out the ordinary for a 2.5

ok thanks for you help, my only other oil leak is the cam cover gasket but ive got one ready to change already. So best advise leave it at the moment checking weekly and topping up if needed? Already spent a fortune on it trying to avoid any more!! ;)

I will chnage the rear seal with that 200tdi you mentioned when I do the clutch then avoid taking it out twice!
