Hello,
I have a 2003 TD4 es Premium, very nice.
When doing filter changes, I have never changed the 2 smaller "O" Rings on the spike of the cap. They have never come with a filter so am wondering where they can be obtained from. They are not shown as separate items in the Microcat Patrs List. Would ordinary Rubber "O" rings from one of those Selection Boxes be OK. Does anyone have a definitive size for them both? Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers.

I'm about to do an oil change in my 2006 TD4, and have been told not to bother with the small "O" seals, in fact the new filter only came with the one big "O" seal and that was a genuine LR part.

Hi , you have to buy the full part to get new O rings

I have both Fram and Britpart oil filters on the shelf in the garage. The Fram comes with the single (Large) "O" ring for the cap and a sump drain plug washer.
The Britpart comes with 4 "O" rings and a drain plug washer. Checked the size of the 3 smaller "O" rings against Metric & Imperial assortment boxes and the Imperial box has the correct cross section and diameters to match the new ones whereas the Metric assortment matches the diameters but the cross section is smaller so they will be sloppy when fitted.
The sizes of the "O" rings supplied in the Britpart filter box are:
* Diameters approximate due to stretch when measuring with a digital vernier*
21.60 mm I.D. X 3.14 mm cross section

16.25 mm I.D. X 3.08 mm cross section

10.85 mm I.D. X 2.4 mm cross section

71.50 mm X 3.68 mm cross section (Large "O" ring for Cap)

Yes, "O" rings from an assortment box will be suitable for use with oil. It's aircon applications which require Nitrile material.

*IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ*

Came to change the oil & filter today, drained the oil and removed the Oil Filter cap assembly (Need a 36mm socket to fit the hex. on the cap).
Opened the box with the filter kit and got the "O" rings out......apart from the large one, the other two were useless, way too big diameter wise
So therefore please IGNORE the smaller sizes I gave above as they were obtained by measuring the "O" rings in the box with the filter.
I will post the correct sizes shortly.
Sorry for the confusion.
:):)

:behindsofa:

If the sizes are known, replacements should be available from a bearing stockist or pneumatic supplier off the shelf.
Don't think for a second that BMW/Land Rover would have custom "O" rings made...they would deign the cap assembly using standard seals.

Just came to change my oil on 2004 Freelander td4 (m47) and the smallest 2 o rings are missing too. Anyone know what purpose they serve, are they absolutely necessary, and what could go wrong if they're left out?
