Oil cooler removal

As title says, Can the sump oil cooler connector be replaced with a sump drain bolt?
And remove the oil cooler pipe adaptor from the oil filter.
Does the oil cooler have a thermostat in the oil circuit (series 2a, 1967, FFR.).
Are the pipe threads unf of pipe standard pipe thread. Thank you.

Couldn't find a thread to fit mine so cut off the pipe and soldered the end to seal it.

There's no thermostat, there is a pressure relief valve. They blanked the oil pump pressure relief value in the oil pump as well, I think.

Removing the cooler means there might not be a pressure relief valve anywhere.

Worth checking, I suppose.

ive never seen a blanked oil pump relief valve

I've got a feeling I asked a similar question a while ago..... of course if the search function worked I could check.

Part 564455 on the parts catalogue.

It makes sense, I think, if the pump valve operates before the oil cooler valve, then the oil cooler would never be utilised.

I thought you were talking about blanking the sump outlet for the cooler pipe..
When I did mine just blank the oil filter cooler pipe outlet and the sump outlet. No relief valves or anything else is involved.

That's it, though. You'd want to check there is a relief valve in the system, I think.

There's usually a relief valve in the oil pump.

When an oil cooler is fitted it MIGHT be that the oil pump valve is blanked off.

Might, not definite.

That's because there's another valve in the cooler, that takes over the job.

So, by blanking the cooler, then you've blanked the valve as well.

It's just worth checking, I suppose. How often does the oil pressure get to dangerous levels, I don't know.

Thanks for all the replies, I just want the oil to warm up quicker ( it takes for ever and a day for the temp gauge to even start to get up to temperature). The worst engine wear is startup when the oil is cold.
I will just take the oil cooler out and replace with a straight pipe and also remove the 8 blade engine driven fan and
replace with a electric fan, this way I can control the engine heat.
Traffic jams which nowadays seems to happen a lot would be telling time.

The optional parts catalogue shows the parts fitted for oil cooler only the V8 engine one mentions a thermostat.
2.25 engines apperar to have a sandwich plate fitted to oil filter location if you remove that and refit filter housing , blank sump return that would put you back to standard.
