Noticed a lot of rust coloured deposits on the oil cooler. A quick clean & bleeding the coolant through showed up that the gasket had gone. To make things worse it showed up a hairline crack in the aliminium housing itself with the coolant seeping through !!!! It's an 02' csw.

I've exhausted google etc... But can find anywhere that sells just the housing. Only £300 for the entire oil cooler. Is anyone aware where I could pick one up or do they only come as a complete unit ??? I've tried a couple of breakers with no luck. I'm in Gravesend, Kent.
I'm thinking of once I manage to get the housing off I take it to a welder as another option ?

They are expensive items because there are not many around. LR have them on extended back order (which means they dont have any and are not making them anymore) and I've not seen just the housing available. I put the cooler from my old engine on eBay and it went for £160 to a guy in Kenya.

I have seen the oil cooler internals available separately though. Unfortunately my PC crashed a month or so ago and I lost all my bookmarks.

Breakers also know how rare they are and want you to take the whole engine or pay silly money for the cooler.

I suppose it depends on where the crack is and how good your welder is as to whether it can be repaired. There are specialist firms doing such repairs but I have no experience of them.

Great !!!

It looks like who owned it before me has seen the gasket leak and rather replace it has just over tightened the housing screw !! Hence the crack.

I've found a couple of aliminium welding firms so I think I'll give them a go before dropping £300 on a complete unit.

All a learning curve I guess.

Thanks for the response.
