Oil Consumption

Ok, just to answer some of the questions.
The truck has done 178,000km.
No, I don't have a wading plug in the bell housing and it's an Auto.
"Ryperd" (for those non-south Africans, this means horse) pulls like a train and performance is ok returning 9+ km/liter fuel.
So I'm a bit baffled. Thought about having compression test done to see if piston rings a bit stuffed but then I would expect performance to be a bit duff.

Not always, your compression rings could be fine (good power output) but yer oil control rings could be buggered, hence oil consumption high . . .

Assuming no obvious 'bad' leaks, then it can only be burning it !!!

Now then,
I don't think a litre of oil would fit in the ecu!!
Topped it up on monday and so far done +500km. Logic would say that if I lost a litre in 1000km then the oil should have dropped in 500km......checked it last night and it hasn't moved.
If I was burning a litre in 1000km, I would expect to see blue mist following me everywhere....but no, only black diesel smoke if I gun it from start. I think I will just monitor it and if necessary take to my local independant for assessment.
