Oil Change

About to give my recently purchased 1992 200 tdi Disco an oil change,
Notice that there are different confusing grades, Names,Synthetic,Semi Synthetic, Mineral, etc. Could someone suggest the very best Castrol type of oil for this model. As I keep reading that these Engines rely on good lube to survive. Thanks.

The following is taken from the Haynes manual:

Change Oil and Filter every 6000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.

Sump capacity (drain and refill, including oil filter) 6.9 litres.

Multigrade engine oil, viscosity SAE 5W/30 to 15W/40, to ACEA B2:96, API CE or better.

They also recommend Duckhams QXR Premium Diesel Engine Oil or Duckhams Hypergrade Diesel Engine Oil.

Just remember that you get what you pay for! About £20-00 to £30-00 should get you about 8 litres of good grade oil.

Thanks for that info 220. Surprised the large amount of oil in these engines .As you say you get what you pay for and that is why I stressed Best Oil. Thanks again for rapid reply and information. I can now treat the old girl to some nice clean lube. Chas.
