i run a tdi as the fred state's and i'm currentlly running 50/50 with no problem's(even a fun day out doing what it's best at didnt cause no prob's)..

i will change to 70 veg and 30 deisel when the weather warm's up(can't really say summer as we dunt get one do we ??)..

ah that kind of mixture right okay thanks was given wrong information. okay what about this cooking oil and white sprit??? I kno I need to change the fuel filyer after couple hundreds miles but after that every six months or 5000 miles etc whitespirt and cooking oil sound a expolosive! mixture!

Watch out, there's a thought that if you add white spirit to the mixture the veg oil is no longer "biodiesel" as it's being cut with a fossil fuel, so it is no longer tax exempt. This ruling is still young but i would hate to give you advice which might make you a test case!

ah right so if I just use the veg oil and declare as biodiesel I am okay up to 2500 litres another question I noticed a wet patch by the fuel tank and filler cap after a run and parking on the drive it is the return fuel pipe leaking? I do about 27 to 30 miles to a gallon so it can't be leaking??

i wouldent mix white spirit personally..however you can mix kerosen but i don't know the mix..charlsey is your chap/chappette on that question.

I emailed HMR&C and asked very specific questions about what you can and can't put in your tank in place of fully taxed diesel and the answer is More diesel, plus Veg oil, Biodiesel and approved fuel addatives and cleaners (redex etc). anything else that goes in renders you liable to pay full duty on all the fuel in the tank.

So:
Kerosene (paraffin)
Heating oil
White spirit
Petrol
Used engine oil

Are all illegal. Evasion of fuel duty can cause you to lose your vehicle. However against that you have to weigh up the likelyhood of been stopped and having your tank dipped. In North Wales this can happen fairly regularly usually at the same time as a full VOSA C&U check and a police document/identity/insurance check. In london it will probably never happen. are you prepared to take the chance.???

A diesel car will pretty much run OK on neat kerosene (aviation fuel) (but it won't make it fly though!)

ere, thass another question and an answer all in one!

not fer long it won't.
lack of lubrication to yer fuel pump will soon take it's toll.
add a litre of injun oil for each 10l of kero and you'll be OK.

There's an article on it in this month's LROh no mag. As usual full of dubious fact but some pointers there, in particular how to convert svo to run neat in a diesel car.

I know its not a landy but my daily runaround (Dare I say it??) Citroen Xantia got the old veg oil treatment today 70% Diesel 30% Asda's finest veg oil. Smells like ive left a bag of chips on the back seat of the car but it was 29p per lt cheeper than the stuff at the pumps:D Coughs on start up and blows a little smoke cloud out the zorst then tick over is a little lumpy for 10 to 20 seconds but then it goes like a gud en.... well... like a citroen xantia any way:p I thinks so long as you diesel engine has a Bosh pump you will be fine on veggie oil from what ive read on different sites. Shame I cant run the V8 on it:rolleyes: I'm now considering droping a 2.5 N/A into my series 3 so I can do the same.

Citroen are faithful to their agricultural roots i think and had veg oil in mind with their diesel engines! I've heard lots of people with citroens say they run well on veg!

i covered a couple of k last year on it and as with the veggie you get more low down power with the kereo you lost it but gained more higher up the rev range, and yes it was 100% pure kero! only thing with kero is lads from what i hear its a lack uf lube as opposed to the veggie, back on 100% veggie now anyway, but ...
REDHAND, when you say anything besides deisel and veggie in the tank, if am running on veggie and get stopped right....... if i use under 2500 liters a year wich i do cause i get the bus most days dont i ;) ! then if i dont need any records etc etc or give any returns to the tax man, whats to stop having my veichle confiscatated?? i.e as it stand the tx man dont know nothing, i run pure veggie, if i get dipped what happens from there?

Ideally keep a written record (just a notepad with amounts put in and dates) of what veggie you put in yer tank and if you get stopped don't call it veggie, call it biodiesel!

veg oil dissolves rubber fuel pipes which you have to replace with what I've always thought was clear plastic fuel pipe (i.e. clear plastic with woven reinforcment) but the suppliers say it's no longer legal for fuel so they call it compressor pipe. I did twin tank conversion on my landy and merc (costs abot £120 for bits excluding 2nd tank see samssauna.com) and the biggest problem was replacing fuel pipes as the rotted!!

wow thanks Marktinman for this information I didn't know about the rubber fuel pipes does bio diesel affect it the same way?? any chance if u could take a picture of the pipe? so I can see what it looks like so I can do mine.??
