Greenie. I got something that aint gonna cost you nuffink to try out.

Have a look on the injector rail for the high pressure fuel rail sensor. Remove the plug off it and have a look at it. If it has turned green or brown, clean it up by scraping and applying contact cleaner. Gently prise the connectors a little to tighten em and refit. Try starting your landy. I went out to a TD4 the other day and found the dirty sensor connections. and it did the job. Rang my mate today who works for landrover assistance and apparently it is a common fault and doesn't show up on diagnostics neither. Let us know how you get on.

No probs. This is a bit late for you but it's a great way to see if your fuel pump in the rear arch is weak and preventing it starting. Follow the fuel pipes into the engine bay on the passenger side of your vehicle. You will see a sensor on top of the pipe (near the chassis rail). If your vehicle wont start pull the wire off. If it then starts it means your pump is weak and needs replacing.;)

Shot in the dark here! Mate of mine had a BMW 325tds with a similar problem. Did all the necessary test with no joy at all. Eventually found out that his exhaust system was blocked hence the lack of revs. What baffles me is where the white smoke came from?? I blew the turbo on my l-series once and had white smoke to cover the whole of South Africa. Not saying it is your turbo cause mine could still rev up.
