BEWARE GARAGES LIKE THESE!!!!!!!

Do you remember my troubles on "Oh Well" (pt 1) and that i said i was
having my car diagnostic tests done, and the garage said i had a
seized turbo!!

Well, i requested to have my car returned to me asap, which it was, so
the following day i decided to check everything over on the car, because a Deisel Specialist would be looking at it the very next day!

I was sickend at what i found...
First off, the bonnet wasnt latched!..
Sirclips were missing from air intake pipes! (pic)
Air intake pulled off inerwing, not replaced! (pic)
Air filter cover not fitted on properly, 2 screws left undone!!
Air filter crushed!
Air filter internal caseing bolts undone, left like it! (pic)
Turbo duckting left hanging off, clips left undone!
Turbo breather pipe left off!! (pic)
Connection for diagnostic, plug & wiring left on the floor! (pic)
Flat battery!

I put my finger in the inlet of turbo and spun the blades!! not seized
at all !!!

All i requested was, to do a diagnostic test!! NOT to take my car apart!

Of cause i phoned the garage, and demarnded my money back!! but
you know what answer i got dont you!!!

So, Dont use...

trading standards, they haven't done what you asked, they did things you didn't ask, and they f*cked up what they did do.

Yer spot on Optimus..

I contacted radio Cambridge, they do a live consumer thingy on there
show, they contacted the garage, but to no avail.. the guy just wormed
his way out of it!!

But my next port of call is what you say.. Trading standards!

Before you go off on a tangent here, lots of the new vehicles have variable turbo's and I take it yours aint, coz if it is then it still might be siezed and they might be right.

In relation to it coming back in bits, then I might have left it that way as well coz whats the point of building it if it wants a turbo, and what did you say to the garage, just give me it back as it is and I aint paying you anyway.

Two sides to every story mucker.

I guess they shud have said that they thought the turbo was siezed, and gained permission before they went further but politics in a situation like this are fokin murder, everybody tells it their way.

Is it a variable turbo then or are they telling you total ****, cause never really seen a turbo seize, **** oil and blow up yes. Variables seize tho.

Quite agree..

Deisel specialist said the turbo was excelent!! and it shows.. it goes
like fook!!:)

But i also agree.. there is 2 sides to a story, cant argue wiff that!!;)

Been overtaken by events, but I am sure a Td4 has variable vane turbo, so the vanes could be siezed whilst the whole unit still turns

And probably the reason they were stripping that part down to diagnose the fault.

Yeah, but seized variable vanes would only affect the performance of the engine, not prevent it from starting, after all the Rover 75 diesel with the same engine & electronics was fitted with a fixed vane turbo. Apparently the variable vanes allow maximum torque slightly lower down the rev range which suits 4x4 motoring.

None of this explains the garages incompetence.

Dont know for sure, the turbo is held open by a device, which in turn is sensed by the ecu presumably, if the turbo is at full boost at startup then is it not possible that the ecu goes into limpback or prevents a start up.

Why the garage never just read the codes, I don't know, only they know.

Like i keep saying.. I didnt instruct them to touch anything on the
car!

Only a diagnostic test!!:(

Get them to put it in writing then and lets see what they say in their defence. You can post it.

Sometimes it's not what you do say rather than what you dont say mucker.

But dont get upset I'm not taking sides, being in the trade I have heard this many times and sometimes it's caused by politeness and lack of clarity.

There is a difference between can you run a fault diagnosis and have a look at it and see why it wont go.
I can see where Greenie is comin from as I've had similar things happen to me and ended up fixin it me sen cause some garages are tossers and dont tell yer owt, just want yer money.
Not all garages but more than you'd think.
How many times have you been told yer thingy was broke an we had to replace it when what they should have said was the apprentice snapped yer thingy off cause he's useless but dont worry we've replaced it free of charge sir
I wish:rolleyes:
