The (New) Freelander V6, 2002 with 58000 Mi on it, is losing water,Got back from work, about 22 miles, noticed the fans were running, went off after 3-4 minutes, checked the water levels, you guessed it, no water in the tank, put 1.5 litres in the expansion tank, went back 1/2 hour later, water gone again, No visible signs of leaks, no ponding under the car, I guess I have a head gasket problem again !!!,

it's due into a garage tommorow for a check up, Dare I drive 25 Miles in it. or fork out the pick it up charge, or maybe call out the breakdown man..

Any suggestions greatly appreciated -(not quite any, but those LR related)

check ya oil levels, sludge, milky - usual stuff.

get it pressure tested and sniffer tested (checks fur combustion gases in water)

most likely HGF which is mohoosive repair costs. Lots of peeps wont repair now , coz the chances of it going again a relatively high, and garages wont wanna warranty it. Hope yu have a comprehensive warranty.

I just noticed - yu said "head gasket problem AGAIN" - yu bin hit before?

kept checking the dip stick, still no water in there, not emulisfied, oil level O.K as it had been previously, Took it back on Friday, on the way (taking it very steady) temp gauge stayed norm untill the last mile, then shot up, obviously had heaters blowing full, on hot & air con on, then with 1/2 mile to go temp gauge dropped to cold, I guess either thermostat has gone as well, or hoses blown somewhere. It's at the dealers now - let them see to it, but may well be bidding farewell to it SOON... Oh and the air con had been playing up.

On the subject of HGF, had a 1.8, which eventually covered 178'000 miles, but I put a recon engine after HGF, in which lasted about 5000 Mi, then another HGF, then I took a sting and put a new engine in it, as far as I know its still going strong hence the trade in for a V6, I think I'll get a moped next. family have a history of LR motors with no probs, a 1978 110, or what ever they were called then, followed by a 90, then a couple of disco's, So I'll miss the old LR thing...

recently got a freelander with the dreaded 1.8xei rover rengine. heard lots about it and researched before purchasing, thought i was safe knowing the head gasket was fine, but nae. started losing water after 1 st few days seeing no water on my drive i got pressure test on it and the radiator was leaking, only problem was the water wasn't visible when it leaked out. goes into a cavity?????? £120 for a re-furb.

anyway, new to this forum, need advice. got water in the rear storeage locker of the freelander. rear window is fine goes up all the way. the seal looks fine??? any suggestions
