's not any more. There's another bunch of eejits in Germany who've got one
which is called (in german) something to the effect of "this place has a
silly made-up name designed to be 10 letters longer then the one in wales"

That's the one ! I live just up the road.

Llanddaniel Fab, 1973-75. What fun we had catching a bus home from Bangor.

Six of us:

"I would like a single fare to Llanfairpwll..." etc
"I would also like a single fare to..."
"Coincidentally, I also would like..."

"Get down the bus. Bloody styoodents."

dys·lex·i·a (ds-lks-)

Haven't you heard that the word 'gullible' has been removed from the latest
edition of the Oxford Dictionary?

Rather an expensive part of the Island to buy a house now Llanddaniel, but
saying that the whole island has gone up over 60% in the last year! bloody
madness!! Pity the wages have not followed suite!

Yup, and Grumble (fna)

Actually Grumble has had a 4.6 V8 and autobox translplant since last
you were here.

How bizarre, I mused, that what comes around, comes around, again and
again and again. Mr Rawlings would claim that red hair is no
disability...

As well as the whole back end converted into a fuel tank I expect!

Is that a landy auto box or other make? How many gears do they have?
I've been thinking about an auto box, they're supposed to be very good
for off-roading although I'm not keen on the idea.

Only if it's been cut off or dyed! Otherwise it could be a real
hinderance to getting on in life..

ZF 4-speed ex range rover (or disco). Bee's knees, dog's coupling gear.
bloody brilliant thing - I had one in the 110 V8 and it was very nice
indeed.

'bout the only drawback for off-roading is that it goes much faster in
downhill-feet-off mode. You do still get engine braking, but not as much.

apart from that, 'twas excellent, on and off road.

IIRC 1st gear is generally higher ratio on an auto than on a manual.
To drive slowly down incline, stop at the top. Apply just sufficient
pressure on brake pedal with right foot to prevent creep. Maintain that
pressure all the way down with the right foot. Now gently press
accelerator with left foot and drive over the edge. You will then make a
controlled gentle descent. Autos are very good off-road esp with a 4.0
litre V8 (bg)

This is getting a bit Twister for my liking!

It's a shame there's no Torque Converter lock, that would be ideal. The
downhill bit is one reason why I'm not that keen on off-road autos, I
know that with my auto Audi speed control is harder than it is in a manual.

If I ever get enough time and money to make a dedicated off-road
trialling machine then I think I'll have a crack at an auto, but I'm not
convinced the 300TDi would like an auto much.

Oh sh**
Bit of a senior moment that one. Think of it as left hand drive and swap
it over.
