now this is a question that i really did not want to ask.
in my last thread i explained that my RR is only running on 7 cylinders but i had to go to manchester in it on tuesday anyway.
So here goes......what is under the passenger footwell that could have caused my carpet to MELT due to excess heat???????
it was overheating slightly but it was fine on the way back from manchester to brum so i dont get it.

I have to say, I'd have taken my RR into a LR specialist as soon as I realised it was firing on only 7 cylinders.

Why seek a response from a forum when your RR is in urgent need of repair?

The more you leave it the more expensive this could get.

My advice is to drive or flat truck your RR to a specialist and get professional advice and repair.

the only thing i can think of - and its a guess - is that the exhaust is burning unburnt fuel!! and getting very hot. I have to accept tho that i dont even know that the exhaust goes under there.

i would take it to a specialist but its an easy fix it just needs one of the twin coil packs that the ht leads attach to replacing it will take me about an hour i reckon but an LR specialist will charge me about 600 quid

Could be the Cats Mine were glowing red hot with a timing fault created by some of the pick ups on the drive wheel being damaged by a sheared flexplate bolt is the cylinder which is misfiring in that bank ? could be fuel burning in the cat can only speak from my own experience

My local specialist LR workshop charges £50 per hour and if you say it would take an hour yourself, it must take the same for a garage to carry out the work aswell.

For the cost of £50, I cant see why your hanging about.....and if your RR is your only means of transport, if your engine blows or causes extensive damage you know as much as myself that a total rebuild and new exhaust is mega money.

Hi all, Jae.

It does seem likely to be heat from under the car, ie the exhaust which could be unburnt fuel and as you have a cylinder that is doing nothing it seems reasonable. Don't use it until you have changed the coil pack, if it burst's into flames you'll be non too chuffed i think.

Cheers, Nick.

lol i ran my p38 rangie from yorkshire to lands end and back on 4 out of 6 cyl (bmw 2.5 diesel) last year. I didnt know at the time until after i was back home :)
