Hi folks. i like to buy a Landy for off road. Im in dilema to modify my and get another landy only for city or to get another one and modify for off road. I have a P38 4.6 HSE Auto, 1996, LPG.... Better a Disco 2 modified for off road or a P38 modified for off road....???

Ive had both a discovery and p38 and love them both. The discovery 2 td5 I had was a pleasure to drive on and off road with is being an ES trim but I missed the EAS from the p38.
The auto box in the p38 makes offroad driving a pleasure but I still prefer a manual for some stuff. Never driven an auto discovery so cant comment.

I would say a disco 2 is better at taking the dents than a P38 and as its 4 wheel traction control it would be better then a pre 2000 P38. Post late 99/2000 they have 4 wheel traction and are really good off road.

The P38 off road on air springs is like driving a sofa over mountains and if you looking at mods then the benefit of the extended air bags is you can program it to stay at normal hights for road then extend to stupud hights off road.

Both have there plus points and negative

No im thinking to modify my 1996 Rangie with coil springs, winch, tires, ect, and get another rangie 2000 for everyday use... Or a Disco 2 is more better off road then a Modified P38 with coil and other stuf..

I wouldnt go coils at all on the P38. Air is better on and off road. Spend the money on some GenIII air bags and extended shocks + mod the hight sensors and program the extended hight setting to increas hight and youll be much better off.

Disco ones are hard to find in good condition for sensible cash. Disco 2 will have less rot and an eairly one can be fitted with the diff lock leaver giving it awsome off road abilitys.

Yep but if i use Air i will have so many trobles... for an off road car...(valve block, airbags, eas error, potentiometer problems ect ect). So if i have a coil spring will be less problem for off road at suspensions...Maby not comfort on road but im not going to find comfort off road :) with both of them... Better a td5 or V8 with LPG for a discovery 2???

What size tyres are you planning for a 5" lift?! Only things that suite being lifted stupidly high is the hilux in my opinion.. However each to they're own! Make sure to start a thread on it!
