Off road campers

What about the military landy ambulances. That would make a good vehicle. Although it would hit your wallet hard! The off road camper costs about 20 grand from aus.

My Range Rover as you can imagine is very thirsty, put a 22' caravan on the back and it's worse again. I'd like to try one of these tent's that fit over the rear of a 4x4, then I'd only need to tow a small trailer, with equipment.

There is a 110 defender ambulance on Ebay at the moment, boxy back,high roof than normal, be perfect to convert into camper I think it was a couple of grand

sod trying to drag a trailer round whats wrong with just carrying ya tent in the back of your landy and pitching it where ya need to simples

Have a look on youtube at vw T25 (T3 in europe) syncro, awsome off road vehicles and extremly capable, more so than many normal 4x4's and they are a full blown camper to boot!!

Also It depends where you are going, tents are ok but I have seen a few people that were robbed in Africa and one night I had a very large beastie sit on my tent whilst I was in it, don't know what it was as it was making a growling/snarling noise and I dearn't stick me head out to have a gander.
Also met a couple in a VW camper and one night thieves took the windscreen out and robbed them without waking them up !!!

Well here is my camper trailer. it is basically an off road box trailer with a tent on it. The normal style soft floor camper trailer. It runs on leaf springs. Working on the basis keep it simple.



It has been all round Australia as I bought it to do a 25,000 mile trip

It was originally a different could and true to Aussie form came with Toyota / Nissan rims

Hi all, I am new to the site but if I may offer my little bit, reads90 got it right, keep it simple and make it strong.

The more you build in the heavier it will get. You need a strong chass single axle, and strong axle set up with shocks. Stub axles have a tendancy to part from the trailer. Beefed up caravans will not hack it, they disintergrate on the move. The more you keep it simple and max storage the more versitle it will be. Best base is an ex army trailer 3/4 or 1 ton. build your own it will be half the price.

epic camper... thats exactly the right idea! tough and simple and still leaves you with the truck to use normally!

theyre nice and well kitted... but theyre also pricey and its a limited use vehicle
