hi all,

my disco 2 has picked up a slightly odd problem, when i get in to start it up i turn the key the ignition comes on all the lights come on and go off as normal. turn the key to start and nothing happens no clicks nothing so try again same thing(keeping ignition on). but on the third attempt it fires up like nothing is wrong. checked the battery, and just put a new solenoid on the starter recently but this problem has been from before i changed it

if anyone can help that be great
Thanks

Are the battery terminals tight?
They have a habit of being slack from being overtightened, if that makes sense.
Try removing the terminals, and forcing the sides apart at the join with a flat bladed screwdriver.
Failing that sounds like a bit of investigation needed, might be due to water ingress

There could be a number of reasons for such behaviour from the starter circuit, if the solonoid has recently been serviced.
  • It could be down to age related wear starting to affect the operation of the starter switch on the ignition lock barrel.
  • Check the "Starter relay" in the engine fuse box. It's a standard automotive relay.
  • It could also be because the interaction between the "passive immobiliser loop" around the ignition lock key entry and the passive circuit in the fob is being lost, although this is the least likely cause.

You say you have changed the solenoid on the starter. Do you mean just the solenoid or solenoid + the starter contacts?

coulple weeks ago the contacts went and i was unable to start the car just a loud click and nothing. changed all the plunger and the bits on the side and it sorted the problem of starting, but still get the dead key turn .
