P38A Odd braking behaviour

I did our accumulator a couple of weeks back. Strap wrench eventually got it loose, with a hell of a clang, think it was the 25 year old original. Did 60+ presses of the pedal first to be sure, even though I was certain it was duff as pump ran every time and start of braking gave ABS and brake warning lights for a second or 2 until the pressure came up.
New accumulator straight on and tightened firm hand tight. Started up and pump ran for about 20 seconds, brakes were immediately firm. Gave it a good few firm applications to test, there was a tiny weep at the mounting union so I gave it a gentle tweak tighter with the strap wrench (only about 5 degrees more). No more leak, no warning lights on braking, but the accumulator holds a fair bit of fluid and on the first drive out was getting low fluid warning. Took about 1/4 litre to top it up properly.
No issues since, except SWMBO griping when I manage to brake too hard and give whiplash due to the improvement!

BTW if you do need to bleed brakes in future, two things help (but not listed in RAVE):
  • Remove coolant header tank while doing master bleed.
  • Cut bulkhead foam around the nipples !!
And find a helper who also understands the instructions in RAVE so they press & release the pedal plus switch the ignition at the correct times.

Ok, so
Followed the instructions in Rave and changed the accumulator in 5 mins.

easy !

Ah but having disconnected the battery my key is now un-synced and I can’t start her !

is it hold in the unlock for 30 secs or is this EKA business ?

also need to reset my windows and sunroof it that’s less of a worry !

What year is RR Late 1999 onwards Open with EKA and key will sync when its put in ignition. Pre that open with EKA Lock (with key) holding lock button on fob count to 7 and remove key Press unlock button keep pressed while turning key to unlock count to 7 key out should be synced when I say count to 7 make sure key is held firmly in lock and unlocked position and don't release button whilst key is in the lock
Windows reset is in hand book

Ha well late to the party again:rolleyes:

Well, all on that front seems good. The brakes seem firm and responsive (although I hear a little more pump action than I’d expect) and the accumulator was really easy to change.

just need to sort the faulty nsf speed sensor and she’ll sail through her MOT (hopefully!)

The pump will recharge after 4/5 presses of the brake pedal. :)

I think a job for mine. Although no error lights, I do have the pump running every second press and at time just sitting idling it will kick in for a second or two.

Sure fire sign that. Our sign was it not slowing up on a slip road at 70 mph....
Yikes !
I was doing about 8mph as I serenely approached a small hatchback with much shrieking
Have to say that changing the accumulator was surprisingly straightforward although I did employ an oil filter wrench.

After depressurising the system (30 pumps of pedal with engine off, wait 1 min, 4 more) it took all of 2 minutes.
