Hi all.I have a 00 xedi manual diesel freelander, and without any ryhme or reason will occasionally not start. All the ign lights etc work, but it does not turn over. She will go no problem with a push so i know it is not the immobiliser playing up.You can hear the yellow relay by the jack clicking, but thats it.At first i thought starter motor, but landrovers i have had in the past when the starter is on the way out it would click where it wasnt engaging. However my starter motor has never clicked.I am thinking starter relay, but happy to be pointed in a different direction.Have not picked up a haynes manual yet for pointers or componet location.Thanx in advance, tony.

The starter relay near the jack is supplied by two fuses:

F1 30amp under bonnet fbox

F5 10amp passenger fbox

Check these for looseness etc.

When the problem occurs, ask an assistant to keep the key turned and check that there is a 12volt supply to the starter solenoid small terminal. If not then suspect the relay. If 12volts is found then the starter solenoid is suspect.

i agree wiff dann. . . . .thud the starter motor wiff a hammer to see if it starts,oh un make sure youve got a good earth on yer engine :)
