Hi guys had our td4 for about a month now but have noticed a problem today, I went to start it and it didn't want to know, when it did I got a fair amount of white smoke! Now she tells me it happened the other day, it's on 90k fsh any help greatly appreciated as I would rather sort a problem before something fails

usual culprits are the lp fuel pumps, when you turn on the ignition ,listen and you should hear it running, not sure of your model ,but mine has one in the tank and one on the inner wing, at this milage they can be trouble, sometimes a gentle tap will get them going again ,

the other culprit is the cam sensor, although this usually fails when it has warmed up

Yes I can hear the pump running when I can turn ignition on, car was warm when I started it as she had been using it looks like I'll try the cam sensor, garage job or not Iam fairly competent with the spanners, thanks bud

its a very easy job to swap out the cam sensor, its held in position by a torx headed screw, (not sure of the size)

Nope, you can get them from motor factors.

...but, before you go down that purchasing route, you can prove/disprove it by spraying freeze spray on it. If it starts when the sensor is cold, but not warm, then it probably IS the sensor at fault. If not, get a leak-back test done as it'll more likely be an injector.

There are other quite recent threads on this issue so have a look back a few pages for more info.

Yeh I did read a few threads just none of the ones I read mentioned the smoke so thought it was a different issue, I'll get the leakoff test done 1st, cheers for the help
