Hi all, had my disco 2 now for a few weeks and had the dreaded 3 amigos light up recently, it came on briefly a week ago when ,moving slowly through town in a bit of heat, disappeared next day, now reappeared on another hot day slowly driving through the town, I've read lots of forums on here discussing this issue and have come to the conclusion I should buy a fault code reader, reading up about how compliant the td5 discos are with fault readers has worried me slightly as nanocom and hawkeye options are out of my budget. Because my Disco is registered September 2004 is there a possibility that there is an OBD 2 compliant reader out there more within a budget range. I'm fairly certain the 3 amigos are currently due to heat and brake dust so didn't want to splash out on a nanocom for this just yet. Cheers
 
If you plan on keeping your D2 Td5 the Nanocom is a great asset despite the price and get hold of a pdf D2 RAVE manual.
After a few uses the Nanocom pays for itself as you won’t have to visit an LR garage for troubleshooting every little electrical issue.

Hi, The Disco 2 TD5 is NOT OBD2 compliant.
What is your approx location? There may be someone near you who is willing to help with a proper reader.

Hi Griff, this is what i thought but i read in another thread that they did become OBD2 compliant at some point in 2004, I'm based in edinburgh so wouldn't be too hard i would think to find someone with the correct tool.

Cheers, i may need to just bite the bullet and get a nanocom.
 
A "Foxwell pro" is a lot cheaper and does quite a bit. Google them to see what you think.
Mine has helped me sort the three amigos out more than once.
They also work with all LR/Jag rpoducts and have the OBD software to help with other vehicles.
I have used mine twice to sort out my wifes Citroen.

Does the light come on when driving, on start up, or pressing pedal?

Driving most likely a hub, when you brake most likely the SV Switch.

But a code reader is needed to say which one.

Hawkeye was good, but now dead, so try one of the other 2

unsure of how it originally came about as both times i was driving slow, the lights are now on consistently so even harder to determine now, ill have a gander at the Nanocom and Foxwell, are these the only readers currently you know that are able to diagnose the problem?

I’ve got the older Foxwell NT-510 for BMW/Mini, Toyota & LR/Jag which is still good but it’s not a Nanocom. Js…

The Nanocom delves deeper into the Land Rover electrical system to correct, analyze and troubleshoot problems. For the Nanocom, you have to purchase unlock codes (and sometimes cabling) for different Land Rover models and engines. My Nanocom is unlocked for Disco 2 Td5 & V8, plus Defender Td5 & Puma
The Foxwell can be used on a multitude of Land Rover models but doesn’t go deep into the ECU, BCU, ABS SLABS settings and it definitely doesn’t program Disco 2 key fobs. The Foxwell can also have other car brands added for a cost. I have LR, BMW and Toyota on my NT-510.

UPDATE. IT WORKS. you have to find the car model manually within the scanner as only OBD2 can auto detect the car its plugged into. My issue was, erratic signal from abs sensor, code cleared, all 4 lights disappeared as i drove off.
