Hi all

I'm going to buy a load of nuts, bolts & washers for the rebuild.

I've heard stories of corrosion due to steel & aluminium (I think) touching. what are the do's & don'ts of this simple task?

Is it worth going for stainless steel ?

Thanks
Steve

Stainless for non load bearing. fixings. door hinges, .Tub mounts etc not engine mounts etc. Forget the corrosion palaver it's a british car and a landy to boot. It's gonna rot and a few SS bolts won't stop that or even slow it down.

What red says is true only use ss on what bolts you don't want seizing like hinges ect not radius arms and alike as its not hardend .

you can get 12.9 grade that's been zinc passivated, but for radius arms etc use the correct bolts, a bit of copperslip will stop em rusting to the bush sleeves

ive used zinc passivated on my swivels, drive shafts etc etc to give em a fighting chance ...

why normal heads are much better cap heads are only useful in restricted areas

thanks for the replies. Normal bolts would be plain steel?

Same question as Jamesmartin, why the preference for hex heads?

Thanks
Steve
