Not another Tax and MOT exemption thread.

Well it is and it isn't, don't want to go into the virtues or otherwise of the new system but I have just got an MOD 109 date of build 8th March 1978.
According to some sources the cut-off date for exemption is 20th May 1978 so all's good , BUT the DVLA website seems to be saying the date is 31st Dec 1977.
Which is it? Got confused now I don't want to keep sending the V5 backward and forwards to Swansea but as I need to get number plates sorted for it what's the best way to go?
And yes it has turned out to be another one of those threads........

I'd go with what the DVLA are saying, they issue the 'Historic Tax' V5 after all, not 'some sources'. The .Gov.UK website states a vehicle has to made before 1 Jan 78 to currently qualify so yours will have to wait until April next year.

Thats what I was thinking, just spent 50 quid on a cert from gaydon so was hoping to get it sorted now but had hoped the build date was earlier than it actually is.
Never mind will give me a chance to get it properly sorted before next year.

Agreed, focus on getting the DVAL to get you an age correct reg for now, that can be hard enough!
