Hi you lot! Until last week I didn't know I wanted one. Now I know they are not everyone's cuppa tea on here but I'm interested in a freelander 1. Just the 2.0 td4.

I've had a look around and seen a couple but a few have had problems. A lot of people are telling me to look else where but I can't help but being drawn back into them. Ideally a range rover hse/ sport would be my choice but money and running costs frighten me due to just being made redundant. I guess your wondering why I want a freelander if I have no job to fix it? Well I'm going to go self employed as a vehicle detailer and can't work out the back of my current car (Mazda mx5). The freelander offers a bit of extra space and more creature comforts than a van. Can you see a current theme with hair dressers here yet?

Anyway scissors aside. I'm gonna keep routing through the posts on here but meanwhile, if anyone has any advice on the td4 please feel free.

One quick question. Is water in the boot a problem, everyone I've seen has it. I've seen a couple of people suggest drilling holes and siliconing the holes where the clips go into the body or something but I do need to continue reading it.

Cheers

Jon

Td4 are okay aka bmw 320 lump.

Crankcase breather upgrade before it pukes oil everywhere and drive train are main areas that play up

Make sure it has two props and doesn't crab on turns or lock up in reverse

Yeah, I noticed a couple with the props missing. Only at that point did the owner say it had been converted to front wheel drive. Ill be honest, I doubt ill ever need 4x4 and as I understand its not real 4x4 anyway. Only when it needs to be right?

The props are removed because the #### up big time and are mega expensive IMHO I would look into a car derived van such as a Astra as these are comfortable and in the cab like a car also better on fuel and more reliable lol

My search continues. See some crackers online that just arn't all that when you get to them! Gutted really as the one I drove today felt awesome, pulled well etc.

Yesterday was an identical car to the one today but it was a 1.8. I thought that felt ok to drive but ideally wanted a 2.0. Yesterdays car was spot on spec wise and body work wise it was very very clean. Todays car had the better engine but the body work was fairly shabby. Not in dire straights but I am a bit of a stickler.

Am I just been picky or is my budget of 1800 just too low?
