Well I don't think I will get time between now and the run, to fit a permanent cb.
So I thought I would get a 2nd hand hand-held of ebay.

Then when I fit out the cab, with a new console I will go for a permanent cb.
 
Heh, my 'permanent' cb was the CB bracket held on with 2 screws and the cb thumb screwed to it with the aerial out the door and a mag-mount. On and off as quickly as our lass can get in and out!

The aerials now more permanent but the cb mount inside is just the same .. ;)
 
Well I have done a bit more research on the net.
And from what I have read you just take the power cable to the battery and connect it direct. (As long as there is a fuse inline on the cable)
Is this right?
 
So what is the best way to wire it in???
I have been meaning to add a new console. So I may as well do in now and fit the cb.

I take it it needs to go into a accessory fuse on in the fuse box?
 
In the Disco I have it wired to the rear window motor supply. Tis a 3door so no rear windows to wind down.

In the 90 I wired it to the acessories supply wire in the centre of the dash,
 
that depends - on my CB, when you disconnect power from the back, whether switched on or not, it looses the channel it was on, and you have to reset it (the channel) to what it was. Can be a bit of a pain if yu forget and are chatting on the wrong channel.......

however I have known a few peeps that have forgotten to turn it orf, and if connected to a permanent live, the next time they go to the motor..... batterys flat :(.
I spose yu pays yo money - yu takes yo pick.

Take a fused live from either a permanent live or the aux side of the ignition (see above) - easiest is the switched live to the radio (if yu have one). Dont forget yu need somewhere to mount the mike - and yu need to run the aerial cable to it.

oh - and get it SWR'd before yu use it :D.
 
I have a Midland, fine bits of kit for the price .. mine's a lesser model than the one you're looking at but is great for laning trips .. when my mic's working right .. :)
 
that will do fine - for laning, you dont want anything special. No huge distances involved and you normally know what cjannel yu are on so no need for scanning either - just a simple basic setup.

My Aerial is mounted on the rear bumper. Always considered a rubbish place with limited transmitting distance - I have never had a problem, and it is well protected there. The number of times we have stopped to "collect" roof mounted aerials is phenominal :D.
wot is critical is that you get it set up correctly (SWR'd)
 
i have ordered the kit but without paying much attention i think i have ordered a huge springer ariel, 61" i think. i did order the swr meter and leads but wouldnt like to pretend i know what im doing with it. time will tell. thinking to mount it on the front wing and tuck it in the snorkel to try keep it safe.

I'd let it twang about if I was you. Catch it on a branch & it'll probably rip yer snork off into the bargain.
