non starting disco...

Hi guys and girls,got a on going starting problem with my disco.it is making a hi pitched squeal when turning on then it just coughs and splutters but will not start until killing the battery...just had a new diesel pipe fitted off the fuel tank and it was fine for a while but now its back with a vengance...a mate said its sucking air in from some where?or its the fuel pump...any help would be great as i am ready to take the 12 bore to it,many thanks..

if the noise u've described comes from the pump(put ignition on pos.II and listen in the boot)....then i'd say the pump is making u tricks.

hi there had the same problem with my disco too, i changed heater plugs with no luck, i then read about fuel filters causing a problem and that they sometimes dont pressure up allowing air to be drawn in the fuel system with a new filter and a small tow the car now starts successful first turn of the key and no whinning noise in tank from the pump, possible causing i think maybe worn rubber seal on the top of the filter housing or smaller on in the centre or the artic conditions with a small amount of water in the fuel filter it will freeze up ....................................???
