Hi folks.
After decoking the air intake, new filters, new glow plugs and cleaned the injectors the bloody motor wont start.
I purged the fuel through as per the book and it just turns and doent even threaten to start.
I notice the engine light with the exclamation stays on when i turn the engine.
I kinda wish i hadnt serviced it as it ran fine before.
Any adcice would be greatly apreciated.
Chris

As it follows work done in your other thread the obvious is a dislodged connector or broken wire. Fuel rail or injector loom plugs perhaps? Frustrating after the work you put in. Can you get codes read?

Cheers Andy.
Can't get it read for a few weeks but i am thinking i have fried the pressure sensor on the fuel rail when i attempted to weld a bar onto the glow plug stump.
Most of the other sensors were off the car.
I hope i haven't knackered the ecu.
Typical diy mechanic here who is a bit limited in knowledge.
04 td4 2 litre diesel beasty.

Make sure you have fitted the rail sensor plug the correct way round. It is possible to fit it the wrong way and it feel fine. Actually fitting the rail plug the correct way round feels wrong, even though it's correct.

Thanks pal.
Just checked it and its definately the right way in.
I am worried about welding damage.

Hi pal.
Yeah the ground clamo was on the engine next to the glow plug.
No i never disconnected the regulator pal.
I think i have bitten off more than i can chew to be honest.
So much for my cheap motoring I feel I am more of a liabilty to the motor.
It was running sweet before i stripped and cleaned everythìng.

It happens like that sometimes.
Any pointers on the best one to get folks?
It depends on the year. Pre 2004 TD4s aren't OBD2 compliant, so a dedicated LR reader is needed. Post 2004 TD4s are OBD2 compliant, so a generic reader will give codes and stuff.

Have you checked that you can hear the low pressure fuel running?

In my experience of cocking things up (Vastly experience in that field) The most likely thing is the simple fault, ie you've missed something.
Go and stand in front of it and carefully go over everything you did from the very beginning, then carefully check and refit every plug or lead you touched or were close to.

Good luck with it.

Thanks pal i am away to do that and going to strip the injectors once i find a pdf on their parts and how tuey go together as I may have rebuilt them wrong although 8 doubt it as i had them laid out carefully on a table.
All i did was dismantle them one at a time and removed the long pin, small round disc, a collar, spring and shorter caller and soaked them in carb cleaner which i sprayed though each jet bozzle or whatever its called and reassembled.

I did the same job a while ago and I seem to remember they have to go back together a certain way but I can't remember exactly. If you do a google search you should find a photo of the correct fitment.
Did you use new copper washers? If not the old ones might be leaking, get someone to crank it while you watch what's happening.
Did you let the diesel leak out of the return pipes from the injectors before tightening everything up to bleed them?
TBH unless you cocked up the injectors totally it is probably a badly fitted electrical plug or sensor.

Hi pal.
Thanks for the reply, yeah new copper washers fitted
I didn't bleed anything.
I have just done a leak past test and all held ok.
How do i bleed the system.
I read you turn on the ignition and let tye pumps run then when they stop repeat 4 times in total to self bleed.
I just had another though.
When i had the injectiors and glow plugs out i manually turned the engine to help in hoovering out a glow plug tip from the combustion chamber.
I did not return the pistons to their original position.
Not being too knowledgeable in how it all works would this put the pustons and injectors out of sync with each other or is it something electronic that keeps them in unison?
I so need to get a diagnostic machine of sorts as i am wasting a lit of time standing in front of the motor doing a blind leading the blind act.
Thanks

I just left a bleed back pipe off and turned the ignition until diesel came out so I knew it was at every injector. It sounds like you already did that so the issue must be else where.
Don't panic!
It'll be something stupid that you'll be kicking yourself for missing. ;)

No it doesn't need programming for injectors. When I did mine there was a minute disc that I could only just see. I'm sure that you wouldn't have displaced all 4 though!??!

Thanks guys.
What i mean is after manually turning the engine to retrieve a tip how does the engine know the position of the pistons im relation to the injectors timing if i have manually turned the engine and have left the pistons in a different position?
Yeah the tiny discs are very very small.
They are definately refitted.
If i remember correctly theres a small collar slid up into.the main body od.the injector then the spring followed by a larger collar with the tiny disc then the needle followed by the injector.which marries up to the pins and then tye collare screwed on.
Not sure if my manual turning of the engine has screwed up any relationship with the piston to injection timing?
ThankC

When i try to start it both the yellow engine lights stay on.
It turns ok and just does not catch.
Can someone tell me how the engine compensates on injector timing if i have buggered about with manually cranking tue engine to a different position?

Thanks
Chris
