just happened this afternoon
either way when indicating a relay is making an unusual noise
its next to the flasher unit and it has these wires going to it
Blue/White
Brown to 31 pin
Green and Brown
Green/Yellow to pin 49

no relays with those colours as standard in wiring diagram and its not one i put in

so not sure what it does or why its making that noise?
disconnect the brown and it goes quiet which i guess is live
i removed flasher unit and joined the wires still makes same noise

Good morning chaps , happy new year to you, it does have a trailer socket, when indicating the warning lamps give a dull glow , I’ll check the tow wiring at back, I was greenlaning a few days ago and it got quite bumpy perhaps it might have shorted something

Thanks rob
So it works with the metal flasher unit where this makes and breaks when it heats up with the load and this relay similar to below turns on the indicator bulbs on dash when signalling so im guessing the short likely on the switching side or could it be on any of the wires connected via the relay to make the buzzing noise

Is it the same left or right?
If so I would (as Phill says) get another relay and try it.
I don't think that circuit is not the one you have as you have a relay and a flasher unit as separate things. Is the relay that's buzzing just a relay or is it a hazard unit (they look similar) and do you have one flasher unt for left and right or two, one for each side?
Things you can do - take each bulb out one at a time, take off the left and right wires one at a time, disconnect the dash lamp. If the relay is just a relay then order another one anyway as they are so cheap.
You need to get the right diagram, does it have one or two dash lamps? does it have hazards? Does the hazard switch look orginal or a later fit (later fits can be a problem as there are several ways to wire them up)

Thanks rob looks like it’s sorted, I think it was a flasher relay but strangely it works with the metal one disconnected, the fault was a Capacitor that had corroded and lost connection , I pulled one from the old 486 in the loft soldered it in and it works, I have the hazards with original switch and these still work and the dash has left and right turn lamps thanks all for help

Glad its sorted. Looking at that and how you say it does the dash lights my guess is its a towing relay, as the flasher unit is the metal one you could probably bypass the black one if it happens again.

That looks like the drawing for a later electronic flasher relay works purely on time not current in load circuit. Also will do trailer lights and warniong lamp.
Defender type is the same have one fitted in my series 3 so that I can have hazards with a simple rocker switch and couple of diodes.
