Just returned home in my auto V8 and got a bit of a bang and lost all drive . Luckily I was very close to home and managed to freewheel to park outside my house. On stopping the tickover of the engine was making a horrible but not excessive knocking, but not an engine knocking noise. I switched off and checked the range selector was engaged, and also put car in park and released handbrake to see if it would hold, which it did. So the car starts just fine although rattling and noisy, and I have no drive whatsoever. Any clues ? Will get it recovered by AA tomorrow morning to local garage, but would be great to hear from anyone with similar experience.

Many thanks

Ian.

Does the auto have a hi lo range selector lever like the manual ones? My handbook is inthe Disco....and it's teeming down with rain. The transfer box may not be engaging properly.
