Hi Guys,
Been a while since I was here, see nothing has changed!
Ok, I have a problem that I’m sure you all be able to help with.
Grinding noise from LT77 gearbox (maybe transfer box), whether in drive /neutral / high / low
Noise stops when clutch is depressed.
Noise stops when in 4th, otherwise present in all gears / speeds.
Any thoughts on:-

a) What this might be?
and
b) is it something I can fix myself?

Ok - assuiming this is the case (who am I to argue) i suppose this means taking off the gearbox etc with the necessary hassle. With the knowldeg or equipemnt, it means a trip to the local garage....(£££££££)

So - given that this is on the way out, if i left it until finally gave up (apart form needing recovery) any other damage i could do?

If it is indeed the bearing then the noise is it giving up the ghost, it would sound like a blender with some nuts and bolts in it before it just falls apart - then obviously you will loose your clutch.

When you then went to replace it you would put a whole new clutch kit in anyway so I would not really worry about more damage - however - don't hold the car on the clutch (you shouldn't really do that anyway) because if the bearing gave up the ghost you could end up with the clutch letting out and sending you into the back of someone.

It will probably get noiser before it fails.

It could also be the gearbox is worn...
