noisy gearbox i think

hi could any one helpme
just got a freelander 1.8 petrol s reg
there is a noise from the gearbox i think
when sitting still with the engine running there is a noise but when you put the clutch down it gose a way is it the trust bearing or the gearbox

More than likely its the clutch roller/release bearing. They can get quite noisy in the 1.8 but they do last for around 60k.

ok then
but it ony makes the noisy when the clutch is up when you press the clutch it gose a way when you have the clutch up the thrust bearing is not going round only gose round when the clutch is pressed

hydraulic clutch sytems have the release bearing in contact all the time, so it may well be your release bearing that is giving the noise as already stated.
