Hi again all
I have search the forum and was no wiser
My problem is all of a sudden the fuel pump started to make a loud whining noise and rthe car struggled to start, it just kept turning over until it chugged and eventually started. Up until this happened it started straight away.
Am I right in thinking its a worn pump ?

Cheers
Paul

Hi Neil
It's Paul who had the flashing miles in Leicester
I thought it was that, can you pm the price for a pump please

Regards
Paul

I have recently had the same problem in my 04 td5. It had been starting fine but then had a cold start problem and would only start after it had been standing if I primed the fuel pump first or worked the starter to death waking the neighbours. I changed the pump but the starting problem persisted... Pump was quiet though. Local garage traced the problem to faulty pressure regulator that was apparently allowing air into the fuel when standing. Since replacing that three weeks ago no problems starting.

Hi Paul, the noisy is a good indicator that your pump is working too hard. Usually this is caused by muck in the filter in the base of the pump. Clean it out and you might just get away without buying a new one.

Also, the noise can be caused by air getting into the fuel circuit requiring the pump to purge for longer.

I would clean the filter first - it costs nothing to try, right?

I have not sorted it yet as I've been to busy at work . I am hoping to get time to investigate further tomorrow.

I thought that to as when I parked it with wheels on Len it did seem a little quieter so hoping to get pump out tomorrow
