My exhaust makes a deep sounding rattle type noisy on idle, sounds like it is coming from the front, near the engine. Any ideas??

Thanks:confused:

manifold gasket (if it's got one) - mounting bolts loose, loose downpipe, cracked manifold

have you physically looked at the area the sound is coming from yet ?

No i havent been able to locate it. It definately seems to be coming somewhere near the engine. Was wondering if it may be the cat or maybe its just that i want to fit a de-cat pipe to improve performance:D.
It could be loose bolts on the manifold though, as thats where it sounds like it is. Normally rattles on the exhaust are easy to locate.

got exactly the same problem on mine.......Heatshield over the left cat box was - still is- the problem. Broke the weld at one end, but lays on top, so looks fine till you get hold of it and give it a wiggle.

i had 1 of my cats go, and also the gasket between the manifold and downpipes was blowing, made the engine sound terrible and i worried it was gonna be a big job, suprising what a difference sorting the gasket made to the sound of the truck. wait till the engine/exhaust are cold, start it up and quickly before the pipes heat up start feeling for escaping gasses, start at the manifold and work backwards as its the front end that will get hot (quickly) first.
