evening all.

i have just put a new engine in a td4 freelander and it seems to start and run ok but the fuel pump by the rear wheel is making a lot of noise!

if i turn on the ignition but don't start it then the pumps sounds like it is priming for nearly a minute befor it stops, but if i start the fl then the pump is very noisey like it is primimg but very loud, have not driven it very far but does seem to lack a bit of power.

any help would be very apprietiated:)

mines the same had to turn radio up car runs fine yesterday when climbing up a steep hill the engine lost speed and power and the engine management light would flash on as soon as levelled out or went down hill the car run fine again and engine management light went out again today run fine again pump still noisey in past 3 month I ve put high pressure pump on changed an injector and now this only had car 6 month 06 freelander td4 2 litre got to say worse car ive had bought it to tow with 70k full service history not good but hope it runs ok pretty soon

If it's a cheap (£30) Ebay pump with black end cap then that's the problem. I have recent experience with them and know that they are louder and are low on fuel rate and pressure. The original (grey top) pump is from Poland and much better but £130.
Whilst you're there, remove the 2" rubber pipe from the back of the pump and check it doesn't have a plastic blockage within - mine did and caused me 10 days of grief! For all I know, it could be a strengthening inner that collapses.
