For the last month iv had a funny high pitch metallic rattling noise that when lift my foot off the clutch (the rattle lasts half a second ish) If I lift my foot off the accelerator quickly and my landrover jerks it does it severel times then then too. It's a 1987 landrover 90 with a disco 200 tdi engine fitted. About 6 months ago I fitted a new Valeo clutch kit, heavy duty fork arm and throw out bearing. It drives fine but this noise is getting me worried! Could it be a loose torsion spring or casing on clutch pressure plate? It's not been fitted long. I can't. See anything visable under there and it's recently had a new front prop. Any ideas anyone?

Cheers! Tom.

If it only happens when you depress clutch pedal, particularly when stationary, the odds are on clutch release bearing

Take this with a pinch of salt, missed the bit where the OP said rattle last half a second!!

Check ujs mate, i had a similar issue, breif high sound like washers spinning on a shaft just as clutch depressed or just as i let it out, was front prop uj at tbox ,didnt feel bad when i checked but was sloppy as hell once i dropped the prop off.

cheers big si that sounds like my noise!

i replaced the front prop around a month ago (britpart) so i kind of overlooked the possability it could be that.

will greasing help? i gave it a good dose of grease before fitting. ill grease it tonight on my break and report back if it quietens down.

nail on head, britpart, check the prop asap, take it off to check it.

Yup, even though they're nylocks, it is possible for them to get loose. It happened on mine about 18 months ago. You notice a bit of a clunk or other noise on drive take up, so they don't get he chance to undo themselves very far before it starts producing symptoms.
