Just noticed a grinding noise when I back the throttle off. Only happens when I'm in 4th. Doesn't sound healthy. All other gears work fine. I have a small judder on the clutch when pulling away so I guess that's gonna need doing soon but the grinding noise in 4 th is new.
Any ideas. I haven't checked the levels recently. Could it be that?

Doubt it could be the levels but wouldn't cost anything to check.
4th is direct so it could be the splines at the front of the mainshaft or inside the pinion. I guess it could be the 3/4 syncromesh unit be couldn't be sure.
Either you may need to brace yourself for look in the box.

I've got a noisy diff at the back it is only noisy when coasting. It seems like its only in top but thats because if I'm in the other gears I'm speeding up or slowing down. Does it do it if you balance it in another gear?
