hi my 02 disco td5 auto is still giving me trouble, I have done a service on the auto box made it change gear a lot better, I have fitted a new alternator old one was overcharging, new maf sensor and fuel pump but it still has the problem when cold it will start no problem but the throttle is very slow to respond you have to build the revs up and if I put it into either reverse or drive there's no throttle at all. leave it tick over for a few minutes and you can drive away but not very quickly, once warm drives great. its cooking my head anybody have any idea what it could be

do you mean the rpm is not reacting to the pedal or the rpm grows but the vehicle doesnt move
when cold or first use of the day,it starts great but if I put it into gear it wont rev so wont move.Even if I put my foot to the floor no throttle response what so ever.

at this point you need a tester to watch the TPS input when this happens otherwise it would be very hard to diagnose, seems like the TPS is missbehaving, it might react to the voltage... keep a charger on the battery over night and leave it on after you started the engine and see what happens...how old is your battery?

the battery is good.and a new alternator just fitted, would a faulty tps give these symptoms, strange thing when left to run for a few minutes it runs ok allbeit a bit sluggish for the first few miles then no problem.

I can't blame the TPS without seing some live data even if it's suspect, as about how good the battery is the only relevant thing is how much the voltage drops while cranking, even if the alternator is new it can take up to 1 minute to start charging and if the voltage is low the TPS can have that strange reaction

sierrafery I just read one of your posts about putting a 10p ecu in a15p disco my ecu is msb but you say it should be a nnn would that cause my problem

It's good you mentioned that... Yes it could be trouble if the ECU has the wrong fuel map in it.... what are the last 8 characters of your VIN and what's the ECU's part number... this can really be the root of your problem

vin is 2a760848 and ecu is 2450 msb101340

it's clear that the MSB101340 is not the original, from 2A736340 on it should have been NNN000130 ... though i can't see the danger in posting the last part of a VIN for diagnostic purpose what so ever

can the msb be remapped to suit my disco because I know a chap that can do the remap

The MSB101340 is a strange ECU cos it was used in the very early Eu3 modells for a short time and it's a kind of ''hybrid'' thing as (AFAIK) it doesnt have the internal link for the ambient temp input from the 4 wire air box sensor but the Eu3 fuel maps are needing it, also it can't be remapped via the OBD port like the NNNs, the chip has to be replaced in it... IMO first of all you should find somebody with nanocom to make a proper diagnose

ok will speak to my mate who has a nanocom

record a short data log from start up as the symptom to be covered and post the file here then we'll see... also if there will be many fault codes logged they must be erased then read again after a ride

had my friend do a diagnostic with nanocom when I bought it no fault codes logged
