Hi all,
P38 2001 diesel auto.
My temp gauge does not register although it does move on to the bottom of the gauge and red light comes on and goes off as it should when the ignition is switched on.Funny thing is, i also get glow plug light whether engine is warm or cold ,and do not have a hot start fitted.

Is it possible that both the ecu temp sensor and temp gauge sensor have gone, and is there a simple check for both of these before ordering new ones.

Thanks in advance
Ed

You could check if there is a fuse gone. Otherwise it's possible to check the sensors off the car with an ohm meter and some hot water. It's also possible to check the gauge using a variable resistor.

Thanks Keith, will order a new one and a set of inlet manifold gaskets before i strip it out and test, just in case it's knackered. :)

Is there only one sensor? Pc is down and no room for RAVE on this crappy laptop.
Does it sound right that the glow plug light would be with engine hot or cold if it was a duff sensor.

Cheers

There are 2 sensors, one for the gauge and one for the EDC. If the EDC one is duff it is quite possible that the glow light would come on hot or cold as the EDC would always think the engine is cold.

Thanks again for the reply Keith.Time to start investigating the connections at the ECU methinks,as i did notice the temp gauge moving up while starting the engine the other day,but only for a second or 2 .
Will report back on how it goes.
Cheers

Hi All,
Been ordering bits for the RR and i am wondering if anyone knows the part numbers for the ECU and gauge temp senders,as ,on Island 4x4 i can only see part number STC 2299 and think the is the ECU one?

Cheers in advance

The rubber o rings for the inlet manifold are very durable had mine off five times now and proving to be good seals, but in saying that its good to have a spare set.

Thanks for that mate,i was hoping they would be ok.Just getting the mating gaskets and a new temp gauge sender.Just not sure of the part number.

STC2299 is for the ECU. Temp one varies with model. Single wire or twin wire A/C no A/C etc. Look at Rimmers and choose one for your car.

There you go good old wammers ps you will need a 3/8 knuckle for the nut on cylinder 6 stud nut squeezed inbetween air con pipe bit tight but possible .

You may have one made in 97 that was first registered in 1998. But EGR was introduced for MY 1998.

Mines a r reg still have s and t reg so obvious on the change over but to the piont he has a 2001 so o rings as I suggested unless he has had the dreaded engine swap repeating myself here

Yep most certainly O rings. And a plastic fannymold. Got a bit at cross purposes there sorry.:):)

Just to clarify guys my car is a bit heinz 57.Its a 2001 dhse but fitted with an older engine ,but has alloy manifold with EGR,MAP and MAF .Looks as if it has mating gaskets between manifold and cyl head . :D

ah we'll that sorts it then best get new gaskets not o rings , got to laugh glad your following mate best use new ones in that case

Thanks for the replies guys.Looks like i will strip it out and see what colour /how many wires ,then order accordingly.
Am i right in saying the stc2299 part is the green one nearest the back of the FIP.
