hi again people just want to know if i remove the gearbox ecu from my own car and plug it in to this one with the faulty low range etc will it cause me any problems and if not and is just a case of removing it and plugging it in do i need to disconect battery befor or anythin else i need to do to avoid any hassle thanks

Before you go down that route (I think you need to cross ref numbers as well) have you checked to see you have power?

I would check to see all fuses / relays etc are working 1st

have not had much time to check much today to be honest as my dog fell in a hole left by work men in local park and now has a torn ligament and wont be able to walk on it for approx 10-12 weeks bless her so not in the best of moods with local council another £2000 vet bill thanks god for pet insurance i guess but least she can be sorted which is the main thing.anyway what fuses and where are they for the gear box pls thanks

If you download the Rave (workshop manual), links are available on here, it will give you the full information that is available to the garages. Including wiring diagrams (as I found out last weekend to help me sort my diesel RR problem).

Have a mooch and see how you get on with that:rolleyes:

have downloaded it already had a quick look but am by no means a mechanic and abit over my head to be honest all them wiring diagrams lol but will sit down tomoz and give it another go i guess

Selecting low range from the gear lever causes the transfer range selection motor to run (or it should), putting in fuse 11 does the same thing except the motor stops in a different place, ie neutral, so it's effectively the same problem. I reckon it's just as likely to be wiring or switches on the gearbox/gearlever. Does it change gear normally in hi range? If it does, that eliminates some of the ECU functions.

gear changes are fine in high just does nothing when switched to low no msg no nothing is it the micro switch that switches it to low also have tried another ecu and still nothing no sport, low, lights, msg etc ????

Could be the micro switches on the gear lever assembly or a wiring failure so there is no power.

Having said that, you wouldn't happen to have a solution would you? I've just bought a 1995 4.6 HSE and I have the same problem, plus the cruise control is somehow connected and doesn't work either. This is intermittent though, when the vehicle is cool everything seems to work (normal temperature here is about 30c).
