Hi Guys,
Just got an 05 Freelander Td4 and THINK I may have a problem, but a Land Rover specialist who looked it over for me says not....
At slow speeds (getting into parking spaces etc) if I press the clutch, I may as well press the brake as I stop without rolling, even on sloped surfaces ? At higher speeds when the clutch is pressed, I continue to free wheel, but slows quite quickly ???
I am useless at mechanics, but my previous car was an all wheel drive and didn't do the same. Is this normal, or not ?

Thanks guys.
Being pants at mechanics, is the VCU anything to do with prop shaft mid bearings ? the specialist I mentioned said these needed replacing, which was done under the warrinty, but this issue remains ??
He did say something about the hand brakes are prone to sticking, but after driving the vehicle for several miles and still experiencing this problem does not seem right.
Thanks for help though, may go another garage in future.

It will be your vcu.....mine was the same before i removed it....now I cant tell you if this braking is normal or not?.... I would say not! But others say some resistance is normal function of vcu......

the braking effect, that is a normal feature of the vcu, is only really noticeable on full lock and not in a straight line.

it is unlikely to be the cause of this particular problem. imho

Thanks.
Will get a brake check done first, as brake problems have been an issue before according to service history, then if not will probably be this VCU thingy ma bob... told you I was hopeless.
Thanks again, gotta go, but will be back on tomoz.

Have a look through the threads on here, there's loads of info re' checking the operation of the VCU (a basic but helpful test anyway) even if it's just to eliminate the VCU from the equation.

Brakes are easily checked with an old washing up bottle refilled with clean water. Drive the car for a couple of miles. Then stop somewhere safe and squirt some water at the front discs and rear drums. If a brake is binding the water will boil or even flash off due to the heat.

Thanks to all of you for the advice. Wish i'd known about this site prior to buying so I could have better researched... from what I see, most advice on here comes from people who know it and done it, not just tried to sell it....
Thanks everyone.... (will let ye know how I get on):eek::eek:
