Hi all.
Im a complete newbie to this site and to the landie scene and really im kind of posting on behalf of my father because he doesnt know how to turn his pooter on.
Anyhoo, my dad has recently bought a Discovery on a 94 M reg its a TDI auto ES. It has run fautlessly until the other day when while driving along on over run going down hill it decided to cut out, coasting to a stop we tried to start the engine again which it did with no further problems.
Several miles and a few days later I nicked (borrowed) the keys and went out in said vehicle myself and while it pulled like a train under load, nearly everytime I took my foot off the throttle either to turn or navigate a junction it either cut out or just simply wouldnt rev up momentarilly. After each time it will start again sometimes after a few turns of the engine and drive faultlessly.
Any help or info on this matter would be great.
Thanks Gareth.

Cheers Yella, or is it Mr Disco.
Had a look at the filter, unscrewed it and had a quick look inside the filter looks brand new, the previous owner looks like he hasnt scrimped on the repairs, stacks of reciepts and nothing looked over at the MOT.
This is the first real problem with the vehicle apart from the 'E' clip falling off the top of the gear selector and sticking in Park. :)
I had a slightly blocked fuel filter on a Hilux once, when removed it looked like a whole culture was growing inside.

Congrats on the New wagon by sheer coincidence I have also recently purchased the same spec wagon...Thankfully no loss of power as of yet ...However does anyone know what series this is as I have been reading about the transfer boxes being changed from oil to grease and do not know if my wagon would have this

this is classed as a series1 discovery, not to be confused with a series landrover. people dont very often refer to them as a series discovery, they are normally refered to by the engine, ie 200tdi, 300tdi, td5, the v8 petrols are refered to as just that, and the 2.0L mpi is normally refered to as a bag'o'****e. hope this helps ;)

I know this is an old post but I finally cured the fault and thought i'd type a quick post to see if it's any help to anyone else.
I traced the fault down to the sedement bowl by the rear axle, after removing the complete bowl and cleaning the crud from the top of the bowl, I found a 5p sized hole in the top which was obviously letting in big pockets of air along with the fuel. Unable to loosen the two fuel pipes I had to renew the sedement bowl and both fuel feed pipes from the tank upto the engine but it now runs like a dream. I think the hole was from years of winter rock salt build up on top of the bowl.
Hope this may help someone else. :D

I had exactly the same problem with my Disco 300tdi the other day. Was driving away from a set of lights, moved from 1st into 2nd and the engine just cinked out. Needless to say I pulled over and let the engine rest for a minute or 5. I then started up again, changed into 2nd and it died again. I gave the guy I bought it from a call as I had only got it on Tuesday. He came out, had a look at it and threw it on the back of his tow truck. Got a call the next day saying that he had found a small crack in the fuel hose/pump and that it would cost me nothing to get it fixed since I had only just bought the vehicle. He fixed it in about 30 mins and I haven't had any problems. Drove over to Glasgow from Edinburgh today and it was fine.
