Hi guys
Was on the motorway doing 80 mph then just lost power stopped start the car again but still no change nursed her back doing 15mph I’ve changed the hoses took her to the garage and the mechanic says there’s no signal from the crankcase to the auto box anyone know what I need I’ve bought a map sensor and crank case sensor new air filter and turbo filter all to be fitted when I get off the rig

Presumably the garage read the codes. I can't understand what crankcase to gearbox signal they're talking about if I'm honest. Does the engine rev up normally with the box in P or N?

Mine sometimes refuse to reverse up a hill if I try it straight from a cold start. It's like the engine refuses to respond. I've put this down to a small leak in the vacuum circuit, which I've yet to find.

But you've got a lot to stuff to check before spending money on random stuff.

You've got all vacuum pipes to check or replace (common problem). All the boost pipes need checking for splits. The fuel rail sensor is another common problem.

I know a crank sensor can stop the engine from revving correctly, but you don't say if the issue is in or out of gear. So a bit more information would be helpful.

Hi sorry
I put the car into drive foot on the accelerator revs a bit fluffy only way I can describe it get up to 15mph then that’s your lot changed the maf sensor and checked the hoses they felt soft so replaced them no difference all started when we had a down pore I was on the m62 motorway just lost power I thought it was water getting in somewhere that’s why I’ve bought a few bits I can fit myself and see if that sorts the problem she start first time on the turn of the key revs fine in P and N

It sounds like it's low on boost. So I'd be looking at vacuum pipes, as these are known to go crumbly. You could also try removing a boost pipe to see if some power returns. If so then it's possible that the turbo has failed, with a stalled turbine.

Ok thanks for the info I’ll try what you suggested on Wednesday once back on land get off the rig Tuesday will let you know how I get on

ok so started changing a few more hoses changing the map sensor today see if that does anything, started her first time as usual as I said shes still fluffy and rpm's don't go over 2000 will let you know how I get on today

A bad connection to the fuel rail sensor will do that. A couple of years ago I fitted a Ron box and had a similar fault until I reseated the connector

Sorry for the late reply it turned out to be the map sensor the housing was full of oily crap so took off cleared it out with break cleaner and put in a new map sensor works like a dream now

Was just reading the thread and was going to post check the map / maf - I had exactly the same problem on an alfa 156 I had and I know what you mean about the revs - the only way I could describe it was it farted its way up the rev counter haha

Pleased its sorted though buddy.
