They turned their back on the world's bestist 4x4 the Freelander. So its no surprise they come up with more bonkers stuff like not liking their own name.

This has been going on for many years. They think the model brands and company name confuse customers which loses them sales.

lt's not losing them sales of the new Defender, there's still a considerable waiting list.
Although the ability to buy a new one then immediately sell it on at 20k over list has come to an end.
For that you need the new RRS, two years wait for one of those.

Defender is a runaway success in terms of sales vs target, except they can’t fulfil the orders due to part shortages- Range Rover family is a clear winner on all fronts (except Evoque Cabrio) even Velar is doing good numbers. Disco Sport is a success, but D5 is a worry - neither fish nor fowl and sales show this. None of this success is linked to Green Oval heritage according to the luvvies, hence dropping it as a brand focus.

JLR don't need Lucas. They have the full RR product group plus the V8 engines and especially the 3.0 TDV6...o_O And this ignores all the electrical and ECU failures. I've been wondering what the 3-5+ year repair costs will be for the new Defender with its 85 ECU's
Seriously? 85? With their history of fourth world class electronics i hate how many weeks a year they'll be off the road with 'electrical gremlins' in twenty years time...

The lneos Grenadier has over 40 ECU's

lt's just how vehicles are these days. l
would imagine that some faults will consign new model Defenders to the scrap heap in years to come.

One thing about the old model, that will never happen.
I agree but expect the problem then will be the price of fuel to run them and possibly road tax. Mind you, that won't hit your pocket if they maintain the historic vehicle tax. (fingers crossed)
