Hi,

I currently have no indicators and before I replace the BCU id like your opinion please.

The previous owner has done some dodgy wiring for the indicators (Attached Pic) and after I had the crossed B (Sorted by messing with Internal Fuse Box) the indicators now dont work even with the dodgy wiring. I sometime have issue with the electric windows that wont close, then all of a sudden work again. As well when i got the car the central locking was not working then also just started working again.

What do you guys think ?

Thanx

Better replace that fusebox first than starting with the BCU cos all the symptoms described by you can be caused by the IDM too(part of that fusbox) and it's plug and play no need for complex programming like the BCU and as it was already bodged it's possible that it had problems before which became worst now...if you go for it disconnect the battery first tthen after the replacement is plugged in and battery reconnected put ignition on pos II an leave it so 5 minutes before you do anything else

The only problem could be if that improvisation was made by cutting original wires then the new fusebox will not match with the bodge

Yes that could turn out to be quite the stuff up ! Am I right in saying I need the complete fuse box as the IDM is not removable?
I have just taken it out and all the wires behind the Fuse box all look in tact, he has cut the wire going into the indicator stalk but stuffed it back into the plug (At least I can sort that one) . Well Il just have to replace and then take it from there!

As Sieraferry says, the IDM is likely the problem before the BCU, but the IDM is an integral part of the passenger compartment fusebox and not easily replaceable.

Other issues are corrosion on the rear connections on that fusebox due to water ingress on the body joint behind it.

Yup Yup got it, all looks good and try ... no corrosion!

I have already ordered a new fuse box will be here in two days ... then the fun of putting it back together and hoping everything springs back into action (After follow the steps Sieraferry gave me)

For the love of the Land Rover hey ! :)

Right ...... :) Got the new fuse box installed and the issue is still there.

I see one of the flasher relays is missing so il go and get one after work, not sure if that will make any difference. The other thing that I have noticed is that the green arrow flashes once then goes off, could that mean there is a break in circuit somewhere? I have checked bulbs they are all A ok !

The search continues !

Did you redo everything as per original by eliminating that wiring mod made there? ... if you are certain that all the circuits are restored and still no joy then you can try to rule out the BCU too, is the symptom exactly like it was with the old fusebox no change?.... usually when a fault in the BCU occurs is will affect other systems too not only the indicators....though with a D2 everything is possible.... and the BCU replacement needs complex programming with dedicated tester that's why in these kind of faults the IDM must be ruled out first

Hi,
Iv taken out the mod - Yes replaced everything where it should be and all BCU controls working besides the Indicators.
I have had issues in the past with Crossed B, wipers and windows but they did not last for long. Even when the mod was in the indicator light on the dash would flash once - but with the mod they worked.

In fact they stopped working when I had the issue with the crossed B, after that they never worked again!

The guy that you put me in touch with from Discovery 2 Parts said he could arrange me a BCU with programmed fob's - is there more programming that needs to be done ?

Yes, more programming needed, you can tell him what equipment you have(e'g SLS, ACE, manual or auto, etc) and he can set the BCU for that but you'll still need tester to make the engine ECU learn the new security code unless you send that to him too to sync it with the BCU

Iv read a few articles where its stated that it could be a broken connection somewhere, Im no auto electrification but il have to get a Multi meter and learn, I think if i can follow the wires to and from the BCU and to and from the lights I can eliminate the wiring. Once iv checked that I get a new BCU and send Paul my current ECU and a list of features me landy has. Im sure the Rave has a wiring diagram for the lights...

In this issue a multimeter is useless cos for the indicators(and some other things) the BCU comunicates with the IDM through a 10.400 bits/sec low speed data bus which if it was interrupted many other systems would have failed, unfortunately the only way to rule these kind of tings is by replaceing the IDM or BCU to rule them out

ok new bcu it will be then,
cause thinking of it the indicators worked with the Mod so the wires should be fine and once we have eliminated the BCU if they still dont work we know to look further !
