Hi sounds like youve stripped the splines off the mainshaft on the back of the box. Take the round cover off the rear of the transfer box (about 8 17mm bolts) and pull the input gear out. have a look at the spline inside this and inside the transfer case.
If your box is original without an oil flinger or cross drilled input gear this is a common problem.
could be a new box mate! check it out first.
the centre could have come out of the clutch plate also. but check the mainshaft first.

That transfer box post was done at the same time as my last one, hadnt seen it... if youre struggling to get it off though i'm surprised. have you removed the gearbox drive gear? stupid question i suppose, of course you have.. then a few bolts, 5 i think, two on the front face, three or maybe four on the back....

na its the transfer box i baught the landy for pennys the other day knowing something was wrong with it.. after the transfer box went i drained the oil out to begin removing it and managed to squeeze about a tablespoon of the thickest blackest oil i have ever seen in my life no wonder it went rly

nice one. how were the splines on the mainshaft out of interest? did it have a cross drilled input gear?

the splines were lovely after i cleaned them up. the bloke who i baught it from had neglected it for so long and not put any oil in it.. ever... the oil had prety much turned to rubber around the input shaft when i took it off which was more than likely the reason y i had trouble getting it off. no it dident seem to have a cross drilled input gear..

just got to sort out the other loud clunk from the front now either uj's or diff i think

if you do a lot of miles it would be worth putting the gear in to make sure the splines get a good oil feed. think the are around £50.
surprised they were good if there was ****ty oil in there as they can wear very fast.

i couldent believe my luck when i checked the splines and it cost me £100 for the transfer box with a 90 day warranty :) i do alot of miles where is the best place to get the oil feed stuff and the stuff to repair the diff?
