AS soon as the box is in and sat in its mountings connect the clutch cylinder start it up and check it goes in gear
Better to check before its all back together

Will do bud, even tho it weren't as hard taking it out as I thought I just don't want to do it again anytime soon as it fell off the mountings onto my chest lol. Kinda hurt.

on a fender? i'd have taken the tunnel and floor out (doesn't take long) and used a strap :)

I had the seat top off and the tunnel and somebody was in the can with a rope around the bell housing to keep it up, I was under the car just tugging it along, it came flying off, fell off the jack and into me, defo a learning experience.

I really gotta invest in a hoist.

ack, lucky it didn't do any real damage

Decided to take the seat box out to make it easier to get the gearbox back in.

Went well.

Looks like a bit of welding is in order, I've never welded a chassis before :p

Thats a shame

Good in one way ,good that you found it and good the box is out to make it a lot easier job for who ever dose it

Was thinking of getting this from YRM for repairing the first 2 pics, worth it?

Land Rover Defender Chassis Repair Section - YRM Metal Solutions

could do.

you seem to be a handy enough fella. i'd go grab a cheap gasless mig and give it a whirl.

it doesn't take long to get 'good enough' and once you've learned it, you'll really enjoy it and it'll become very useful.

i'd get a angle grinder with wire brush on it all and see exactly what you are dealing with.

Already got a Clarke 150 mig, just not to good at it at the moment. Defo gotta put in a bit more practise first

no excuse then :)

whatever you do, it's better than the rot you would have been driving around with.

if you haven't got an auto shade, i'd grab one of those for 35quid from ebay.

get some ticker metal and turn the mig on high and have a play. cut the wlds you do in half and see how they turned out, etc.

lots of vids on youtube on the mig forum :)
