After having resolved my dead battery troubles yesterday, my brakes have failed today:mad: They were feeling a bit sloppy this morning; have just done my shopping and on the way to Sainsburys I found that there was no pressure at all on the brake... pushes it straight to the floor and does not brake at all now:doh:

Could the frost have bust the brake hoses?

Have just checked the reservoir (thats the one with the yellow thing on top of the cap isnt it?) and it's half full and there is no leaking as far as I can see?

edit: The last two weeks the steering has been pulling fairly strongly to the left when braking; not sure if this could have anything to do with it?

Sounds to me like a leak on your brake pads and disc, keep pumping and see if you reservoir drops further.

I would not drive it anymore until you're sure!!!

Thanks Steve-O, just spoke to my dad and he said the same; have had a look and I'm pretty sure you're right.
Have taken a few pictures of the front driverside and that's the only one thats wet; also note the marks on the wheel:

Just a quick update:

Had my mate help me out today (thanks Nick!) and we think bleed nipple was slightly loosend.
After bleeding it several times it we can't find any other leaks so hopefully thats solved; but after a few test drive's the landy is still pulling strongly to the left when braking.

The Haynes manual states you should bleed all brakes simultaneously; is this really neccesary as we know the leak came from the front driver side and thats been bled several times?

If brake fluid would have leaked onto the disc, should I replace the brake pads or will it get better in time?

with it pulling to the left when braking ur right caliper could be seized. take out the pads pump the brake to see if the pistons move (will prob have to undo bleed nipple to get pistons back to position where u can get pads back in)

bleeding brakes two front ones if u have worked on front two back ones if worked on back (if bleed nipple was loose it would explain why u had lost half ur brake fluid)

To bleed to the brakes you should start with the corner the furthest away from the master cylinder and work your way closer to it. Do all four corners and keep going until you have new fluid comming out as if its been in there a while it will probably be due for a change!

As for your brakes pulling you should really change out the brake pads on both sides and give the disks a good clean up with a solvent cleaner. If this doesnt stop the pull then its time to look into it further as it could be stuck pistons or similar.

Bled all four brakes yesterday, starting from the rear left. There's definatley no air left in the system. After a quick test drive it's still pulling left:doh: We were hoping to check the calipers but couldn't get the wheels of in the end.

I've now booked it in at Liveridge for this Friday as I'll have the day off work hopefully. Fingers crossed they'll fix it without costing me too much.
 
Last Tuesday it stalled on the way to work and wouldnt start again; luckily I've got a breakdown cover with my insurance so gave them a ring.
Had to wait 2 hours in the car, minus 10 outside and no heating!
The bloke turned up and said he didnt know a thing about diesels:doh:
So instead he told me he'd tow me the garage; had it towed it Liveridge as I already had it booked in there for today to fix the braking issue. Got the call today that it was ready for collection and went to get it with my mate this afternoon.

The bill:

Fuel lift pump : £21.00
Used O/S Brake Caliper £30.00
Brake Fluid £9.00
Labour (2 hours) £96.00
VAT £27.30
TOTAL £183.30
 
It looks like you have oil on the disk ? Are your wheel bearings ok? Or maybe the hub seal has failed?
A losse wheel bearing leads to the feeling of no brakes, because the wobbling disk pushes the pads apart ,.:. then oil on the disk ....if I need to explain that as a problem it's time to call the AA !
