I have a 96 300 tdi i understand the abs light should come on when you switch the ingnition on mine doesnt come on at all but the brakes feel fine no fadeing locking up or anything but we are towing our caravan easter weekend so would rather have any probs sorted any ideas please i have done a search but they mostly seem to be lights staying on all the time is it likely to just be a blown bulb of am i looking at a big job thanks

It is possible somebody took the bulb out because they couldn't resolve a fault on the ABS. Would suggest check bulb is in place or at least not blown. If new bulb comes on and stays on get a blink code out of the ABS ECU and go from there, probably an iffy wheel sensor giving an air gap fault but you won't know until you investigate it more thoroughly. It is worth going through the pain barrier on this one, after all your life or somebody elses may depend on your brakes - think about it!

Hi rite had the dash pod off to get to the light it had a bulb swaped it over with a known working bulb and still no light what would be the next most likley cause is there a fuse (checked the main fuse box only fuse missing is for the head light washers???? ) or relay hiding sumwhere???? thanks

Has this light worked at all since you have had the disco

Hi no i only got it last week havent noticed it at all to be honest wasnt sure it had it (as in the hand book it does say (if fitted))fitted till i came across it on this site and people were saying they were having problems with the light staying on on models around the same age (both newer and older) than mine and then noticed mine didnt come on at all!!

I will assume you have ABS fitted.

Trace the ABS loom, check all the relays are present and correct and are working. Check all the ABS fuses are present and correct. I can't remember on a Disco where the respective bits are, on a RRC it's all under the passenger seat but I think the Disco has some of it? tucked up near the glove box.

If you're not sure if you have ABS then look underthe bonnet and trace the brake pipes in the engine bay from the master cylinder (left hand side), somewhere on the right hand side (when facing the vehicle) you should find the ABS valve block - you can't miss it.

I have a '94 and a '96 and neither have ABS fitted. I think Classic kev has given you some good advice.
