I was excited to receive my brand new Zenith Carburettor arrive from the postman today, all new and clean! "Buffy" (my land rover series 3 88) was chuffed to bits and is looking forward to fitment on Sunday! :D
Now, Ive not fitted a new Carburettor before, the one on there is a knackered Weber and I was told its an easy swop to do. I cant see much different anyway. Thing is, when its fitted what goes then? Is a new one set up for starting or should I do something first with any of the adjustments before starting? Once shes running I will adjust idle etc.

What make is it? Is it an indian copy? If so, dont be upset if it wont run properly out of the box or warps in a few 100 miles. It may be fine tho, judt ignore me:p
Remove old carb, clean matinf surface, fit new carb dont tighten it down with all your might just firm. Hook up throttle, choke (test it opens fully) , vac advance and air box plus fuel line with a new fuel filter.
To set the mix all other engine parameters must be setup correctly; valve lash, timing etc

Fire up, warm her up fully, set the mixture as specified in other posts on here. It will prefer it a bit rich.
If it wont rev up then the accelerator pump valve ball bearing has fallen out. My new zenith does this, rubbish.
good luck, make sure you use a new gasket carb to manifold adaptor.

Its a Britpart part number ERC2886. Everything I seem to buy Im told is crap but to be honest Ive not had any problems with britpart stuff. Unfortunately I have a budget so can only buy what I can afford. Gotta be better than the Weber on there now, dont think its ever been touched.....ha, it blasts out gas and petrol out the gasket joint when she fires up! Never seen anything like that before! :D Something had to be done.

Many thanks for the help Ronseal! Atleast I know what to do now ;)

No probs, I'm on my PC now so can type (bloody phone).

When you get the carb out of the box you will see it has tamperproof plastic covers on the volume and idle speed screws. You can pull them off with pliers if they annoy you.
Set the volume screw (to find it, see this link http://leo.mocce.com/~guido/AAAA/Zenith/Z36IVWS.pdf it gives you pretty much all you need to know about Zeniths) all the way in but be very gentle, don't tighten it. Once you feel resistance, unwind it 720 degrees (2 full turns). This is a good starting point. Start engine, warm her up nicely, take her for a short drive to get a feel if she is running better than before etc... Leave the engine running and start unwinding the vol screw slowly, this lets the engine react to changes in fuel mix. listen for the revs rising, keep going slowly until the revs peak and just begin to fall. Screw back in until the revs hit the peak. Now adjust the idel screw down to around 800 RPM or less if possible. The engine should be on the rich side now so take her for a drive, see how the exhaust smells and then give her another turn in (i.e screw in 360 degrees to lean her out). Take if another drive and see how the exhaust smells etc... It shouldn't really be popping or missing atall, but then again these are old engines and it may just be a factor of something else.
All I would say is, once you've got it right, leave it alone! A gas analyzer can be used by a mechanic or your MOT guy but this can mean a lean setting which 2.25 engines apparently aren't much of a fan of. So richen it out a turn if you have this done.
My new Zenith is a Britpart one but for all the people like me with an issue, there's probably 25 that don't have one. Even if it is a bit dodgy, they can be tweaked no worries to fix anything. The accelerator pump issue on mine is an easy fix, but I just bought a new Weber instead and keep the Zenith as a spare or if the Weber ices up or whatever. I have to say, the two carbs are really similar when in good tune.

Hope it goes ok. Nice easy job for a massive result!:D

Fab thanx! Best thing about all that is all the test drives Im gonna be doing! :D Any excuse to drive her is a good excuse for a beaming smile on my face!
Shes given me a few headaches but Ive got over them thanx to people like you on here and a bit of dogged determination, but I love her to bits! :)

Had my zenith copy running about 6 months now.
Set up as per haynes manual and post in how to section with no problems.
Only problem so far is tamperproof plastic bit and idle screw fell out making intersections interesting one trip. Have now set up with cap screw and wing nut as a lock nut.
