mine does it sometimes, and occasionally when I put the handbrake on the dash lights and headlights go out completely. I believe its the handbrake switch shorting or something earthing through the handbrake cable if the plastic coating is worn.
you'll find the switch under the gaiter, its not difficult to get too.
