NewMemebr New to 4x4 Old Disco 300tdi

Hello Guys and Gals.
Been and bought a 300tdi Disco 1995 vintage, very impressed, good hardware for little dosh.
Anyway ?i have a number of questions. Please see my profile, not a novice at DIY, built a Dutton, rebuilt a number of engines including bikes, and done the odd bit of gas and mig welding.
I've replace the battery and starter motor, to restore the correct start up spin, used to turn over once then sulk. Mind you it wa -4.5 C when I picked it up.
Runs ok drive train, on (Diff lock and low and hi ratio all ok).

Heres the crunch three things.
Heated rear window will not work, I can get the light on on the switch but its a trial, are there any favourite failure modes, and where is the relay????

Second is, I've had to remove the inner door panels to replace the lock springs, oh really easy job in this weather, Locks done and working Fine all set up. Only ptoblem is the panel fixings. even during very careful removal some of the Black plastic fittings came away from the foam/cream coloured stuff on the panel. Q what can I use to glue them back in? I have the new plastic clips that fit in the door, and all the other bits are salvageable.

Three. EGR valve is held in by two allen head bolts. How easy is it to get these out? I've heard that blanking this off with aid performance and running. I had endless trouble with the EGR I had on my first Jazz. Pain or what. So I'd prefer to run without it.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi there. With the door fixings i would have thought that epoxy or super glue.
EGR. the bolts on mine gave out really easy. However you could always saok them in diesel, or wd-40 the night before.

Hi you will enjoy your Disco, the allen bolts on my EGR were quite solid but a drop of WD40 the night before along with a ring spanner slipped over the allen key to extend it did the job really easy. That and a de-cat pipe make quite a difference to performance and fuel economy.



I used to own a Dutton a few years back, not a bad toy to have at the time but a Disco is way more fun to own. Always seems to be a job that needs doing

in five years ive never actually tried the heated rear screen on mine.... drove a ldv van for years that didnt even have rear windows so got into the habit of using the door mirrors exclusivly.

I found the window realy inder the dash on right hand side.
Seems to work. now I've got 14v accross the window itself (actually the window not the connections. Still does not seem to work, next step is to check the current, Is there an earth in the door assy. Haynes wiring diagrams are useless.
Re the exhaust, where can I get a decat pipe? does it have a stock number, best supplier?

Oh by the way TinHat came from riding a motorcycle and being particularly thick skinned. If you have to ride a Honda 90, at 6ft 1inch abnd 15 stone you have to expect some comments!!
Oh my Dutton used to stop regularly!!!! something to do with the Ford wiring harness which was eventually replaced complete with a purpose built unit.
