Hi all, newbie here with a few questions and pics!

New disco:

Old disco :

I acquired a disco 1 97 reg argyle a few years ago, been an amazing car and apart from me adding a few mods - 2" lift and huge tyres - the car has only needed a battery.
Anyhow, it's at the end of its life now, so I've bought a disco 2 99 reg, auto with 108k on it - I didnt realise how different the cars were. Already I have lights intermittently on my dash, something the other disco never showed me! They've gone for the time being but I'm sure they will be back - tempted to just remove the leds!! The only mod is that the rear 'suspension airbags' have been changed to springs. Anyhow... onto my first question..

Will the suspension ( 2" lift) off my disco one be transferable to the disco 2? Looks very similar but just wanted to check before I cracked on - the missing suspension airbags have been mapped out on the computer of the disco 2 by the way.

Also, I'm going to put some off roading tyres on it as we have land and it's used often on the fields so this leads to my second question...

I took the wheels off the disco 1 today to just see if they would roughly fit the 2 but the bolts are nowhere near! I'm unsure of pcd fitments/stud patterns etc but are there any adaptors to buy to fit the old wheels onto the new car or am I better off just buying new wheels with the correct stud pattern and putting the existing tyres on? Wheels currently on are 18" with 255\55\18 tyres

The wheels and tyres I have on disco 1 are insa turbo 265/75/16.

I did have to obviously lift the disco 1 and cut the bumpers to suit!

Last question : I have the facelift lights to install - is this a big job?! I'm guessing the electrics wont be easy?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mark.

My big question is what went wrong with the Disco 1?
It looks fine and I have kept my Anniversary which is only a 1 yr younger than yours. Love it to bits and it will only need welding to get back on the road.
My Disco 2 auto 2000 has cost me a fortune and continues to do so. I seem to drive from one problem to another.
It is a wee bit bigger and a wee bit more powerful but I am dying to find the time to sort out the disco 1 and get rid of the D2!

You really want to know?!

* The chassis is knackered. Was welded years ago but the back end is completely lifted.
* the turbo doesnt work
* the clutch has about 20 mins of driving left in it
* the door doesnt close properly and let's a cold rush of air in right at face height, horrendous these cold winter mornings
* the car has no form of heating
* there is a mouse living in the glove box
* the back door doesnt open without a crow bar.

It really is on its last legs!

"the car has only needed a battery."

Lol

D2 looks nice though. ;)

Yeah it looks similar to a D1 but is in almost every way, different. The transfer box and rear door glass are transferable rest assured, but not much else : )
The lights are important as if it has no difflock and you have an abs fault, it will be about as useful offroad as an e39 BMW, as the traction control wont work. Welcome to the world of electronics in a 17 yr old car that leaks water as standard.
You can use your tyres but not your D1 wheels, D2 is 5x120 so much smaller hub size than a D1/90/110.
Springs wont interchange either. But lifting kits for a D2 aren’t expensive. Not much point really but same principle as a D1.
Drive it around and report back the faults. A Hawkeye is a good investment. Best of luck

Great, I should've bought another D1 with a decent chassis!
Right, so the PCD is 5 x 120, that's the wheels I need to get..
And also a new lift kit!
When you say about diff lock, it's an auto and doesnt have the lever - just the high-low ratio option - but the bloke who I bought it off has fixed a lever underneath to engage it. Have you heard of this before??

Haha! With the emphasis on 'needed'.
Heaters, turbos, door seals etc are just luxuries right?!

All overrated series landy drivers will tell ye lol

What are you doing with the old D1 im trying to buy a jap import v8 shell missing the drive train.
I have loads of 300tdi bits but missing the main conversion bits. ;)

As long as the shell doesn't need welding you'll be able to sell it to quite a few ida thort. In fact pretty miraculous if it is that clean.

depending on when it was built there may be all the stuff in the box and a lever on top to work it, from underneath. If so you can get a kit to connect it up to a lever in the cab or you can make your own up. Plenty of threads on it on tinternet.

Cheers, only just realised having dug through a few threads. I'll be able to knock something up with a lever into the cockpit!

It's just going to live in the field for the moment, the wheels have been ordered so will need to pinch the tyres of it and a couple of other bits. If anything changes I will let you know!

Do at least stick a tarp over it! you want to preserve your investment!

By the way my local 4x4 mechanic says it is possible to put a D1 body on a D2 chassis. Must admit I was skeptical but he swears it is possible. Would involve a lot of work i'd think. Or was it the other way round?

Ok no probs im off to see this v8 shell tomorrow as the lad has got back to me. :D Let me know if you want to sell it.
Preston is a road trip. I don't need the wheels or tyres. :)

D2 body on a D1 chassis can be done spacers needed for the rear chassis to body mounts. ;)
